Harry Reid continues the latest Democratic meme of “when did you stop beating your wife” by continuing to demand Mitt Romney release his tax returns for the past ten years, asserting without any justification or legitimate source, that Romney didn’t pay income taxes for ten years.
Of course Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid doesn’t even pretend to see his hypocrisy as the McCarthyism that it is – using his position as Senate Majority Leader to make completely unsubstantiated and unfounded accusations of criminality against a Presidential candidate to tear down that candidate. But, recognizing hypocrisy is not one of the strong suits of politicians of any political persuasion.
Wayne Allen Root has a story over on The Blaze today based on his “gut instinct” that Obama has something to hide from his days as a student at Columbia University. Normally I would say anyone with a “gut instinct” ought to do more than rely on the gut instinct, but will grant that a gut instinct is much more believable than Harry Reid’s unsubstantiated “someone told me” allegations against Romney.
Why the difference? At least Wayne Allen Root attended Columbia University at the same time Obama did and has some rational basis for questioning Obama’s lack of transparency about his Columbia University days in New York.
While the Root story is interesting and intriguing, it really misses the hypocrisy of what is happening in the media and in the Obama White House.
For example, we know John Kerry’s record as a student. MSNBC that paragon of journalism (where’s my font for sarcasm?) even writes about Kerry’s college days:
Sen. John F. Kerry’s grade average at Yale University was virtually identical to President Bush’s record there, despite repeated portrayals of Kerry as the more intellectual candidate during the 2004 presidential campaign.
MSNBC even reports on George W. Bush’s grades when he was in college in the same article, quoting a New Yorker magazine article:
In 1999, The New Yorker magazine published a transcript showing Bush had a cumulative grade average of 77 his first three years at Yale, and a similar average under a non-numerical rating system his senior year.
So an admitted left-leaning television station reports on the records of both a Democrat and a Republican Presidential nominee, but is silent about Obama’s continued deep-sixing of his own transcripts and college records.
Bill Dedman, listed as an “investigative reporter” for MSNBC even writes about Hillary Clinton’s college thesis, and encourages people to actually read it:
But can an academic paper from nearly 40 years ago really unlock the politics and character of any former student, much less the early Democratic front-runner for the White House?
This is your chance to decide before the political spin machines get their hands on it.
Wow, according to MSNBC I should have read Hillary’s thesis before the political machines began to spin the contents and before those same machines could tell me what I should think about that thesis.
Great suggestion, MSNBC.
How about the same for Barack Obama?
The hypocrisy is disgusting and offensive. It’s the stench of that little kid in grade school that vomited in the classroom and we could all smell it before the custodian could get in and clean up the mess. The Obama machine’s burial of his records stinks that badly.
If knowing John Kerry’s, Hillary Clinton’s and George Bush’s academic records was good enough for MSNBC, how about Barack Obama’s? Apparently a double standard exists.
But if you’re wondering why Wayne Allen Root thinks Obama is hiding his records, here’s his hypothesis:
Here’s my gut belief: Obama got a leg up by being admitted to both Occidental and Columbia as a foreign exchange student. He was raised as a young boy in Indonesia. But did his mother ever change him back to a U.S. citizen? When he returned to live with his grandparents in Hawaii or as he neared college-age preparing to apply to schools, did he ever change his citizenship back? I’m betting not.
Under the Harry Reid standard of hurling allegations, I’ll accept Wayne Allen Root’s allegations. So until we see those records, Mr. President, I simply ask, “when did you stop being a foreign student, sir.?”
